Is Mesh In The Future Of Meeroos

Is Mesh in the Meeroos futures?

As far ahead as they are design wise by comparison to other breedables; I was curious if there would be mesh in the future for the animals? Considering they'd still be low prim if dont correctly, wouldnt that open up for a lot of options?

ANSWER: This was a big roundtable debate that took place not long ago. Many details surround Mesh were pretty sketchy while we were in development, more specifically things like prim equivalency. If we had held off and waited for mesh to be implemented into Second Life it might have been more of a viable option, but we didn't feel it was optimal, given we were in the dark (as many were) about the details. So, we developed without Mesh in mind into the far future with many assets already made.

Another issue was user adaptability. There are still an overwhelming 60% of Second Life users using viewer 1.0 code base viewers. As you may know, these viewers - any viewer not build upon viewer 2, cannot see Mesh in-world. They see distortion when looking at it, triangles, actually. The Second Life community has been slow to adapt to viewer 2 codebase, but the ability to see Mesh is certainly a prime motivator for many to make the switch finally! But we aren't sure it's happening quickly enough. The numbers are growing but at a slow pace because of the viewer 1 portals still available. Many people inherently prefer viewer 1. It's a very long and complex bone of contention in the Viewer vs Viewer world. People like The Firestorm Development Team and Kirstens Viewer have worked tirelessly to make Viewer 2 more accessible and comfortable for users who are hesitant, but it's a slow process.

Ultimately, while mesh hit the grid today, it won't be coming to Meeroos. When Viewer 2 becomes more standardized and the usage between it and the numbers still using Viewer 1 portals like Phoenix narrows, we will revisit it, but it's not on the plate.

Thanks for the great question, Tyr!
